What life lessons do you wish you had learned earlier?

As we prepare for my daughter to enter middle school I am in a panic. I'm scared ya'll.

I started thinking of so many little things I wish I knew then. I started thinking of what I wish I had to help on the journey. I was awkward. I’m still awkward but whatever so most of the time I struggled to articulate what I needed because I simply didn’t know.

I didn’t know how to tell my old school mother that I needed different pads or I had trouble with shaving. I didn’t know how to really say I was nervous or scared when I was uncomfortable around or with certain young men. I didn’t know it was ok to not be liked until I was much older.

I didn’t really grasp that self care was beyond the physical and that my mental and emotional needs need maintenance also. I just tried to figure it out on my own.

And although through trial and error I learned a lot, I wish I had some pointers or the courage to ask for them. That’s why I bug my daughter so much and ask what else she needs or wants to help her. I try to buy her products that are specific to her, not my interest because I want her to be comfortable at home, at school, and in the world. I listen without comment or judgement. I don't have it all together but I am trying to be the person I wanted while becoming the person she needs.

So, if you could go back in time and pick up some lady lessons, what would they be? What would you like to share with a young lady now that you learned along the way?
